Drs. Naira Chobanyan and Regina Clark were speakers at Mount St. Johns Medical Center as part of a week of activities highlighting Sickle Cell Awareness Week.

The educational seminar focused on “Complications of Sickle Cell,” “Treatment of Sickle Cell,” and “The Importance of Testing for Sickle Cell and the Trait.”

The event was sponsored by the Antigua & Barbuda Sickle Cell Association. The organization’s objectives include collecting, coordinating, and disseminating medical and scientific data related to sickle cell. One highlight of this year’s activities was the opening of the ABSCA Centre which is located in the Old Rehab Unit of Holberton Hospital.

The Sickle Cell Association is one of AUA’s Community Outreach organizations. The ABSCA is a regular supporter of the AUA Health Fair. Dr. Clark serves as the organization Public Relations Director. Nurse Bernice Pigott is the President of the 40 member body.
