Study Medicine at a Caribbean Medical School to Become a Global Physician

American University of Antigua – MD Program

American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) ranks among the top international medical schools in the Caribbean thanks to our emphasis on innovation and providing a learner-centric education of the highest quality.

Offering a curriculum that is similar to top American and Canadian medical schools, AUA’s medical program leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree is a 4.5-year program. It consists of two years of Preclinical Sciences coursework on the AUA campus in Antigua and 84 weeks of study in the Clinical Sciences at the teaching hospitals of recognized medical school throughout the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom, where medical students complete their core and elective rotations.

Caribbean Medical Schools & International Recognitions

In record time for a foreign medical school, AUA became one of the few Caribbean schools to obtain prestigious international accreditations thanks to the extraordinary quality of our facilities, curriculum, resources, faculty, administration, and student body. For many Caribbean medical schools, it takes over a decade to receive these recognitions, but AUA’s dedication to upholding the highest academic standards has not gone unnoticed by government jurisdictions, external agencies, and international accrediting bodies.

AUA’s medical education satisfies the medical school education requirement to practice medicine in all 50 states and U.S. territories, Canada, United Kingdom and other countries.

AUA + Warwick = MB ChB

AUA College of Medicine’s high achieving students now have the opportunity to apply to transfer to University of Warwick’s Medical School (WMS), United Kingdom and obtain their degree by completing their basic sciences at AUA College of Medicine in Antigua and their clinical education at University of Warwick. Students that partake in the AUA WMS transfer program will receive their medical degree from the University of Warwick. The partnership between our Caribbean school and the University of Warwick aims at nurturing a diverse academic community to propagate global medical health propelled by their common goal of excellence in medical education.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

As one of the most widely recognized medical schools in the Caribbean for international medical students, AUA is approved by the Canadian Ministry of Education, meaning that eligible students may qualify for Canadian financial aid. Eligible students can receive Canadian federal student loans, provincial loans, and participate in grant programs. The university also offers both a grant and a scholarship that are specifically designed for Canadian students.

Caribbean Med School & International Residency

If you are considering studying medicine in the Caribbean, medical school graduates are eligible to participate in residency training and receive licensure in order to practice medicine in Canada. Through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), our Caribbean medical students have gone on to secure many competitive specialties in the United States and Canada.
