CAMPUS TOUR

Built to give students every academic advantage as they embrace their future as medical professionals, American University of Antigua’s campus sprawls across 17-plus acres abutting the ocean. It features WiFi™ throughout the academic grounds, interactive multimedia classrooms and labs, and Blackboard Learn™. AUA allocates 12,000 sq. ft. to its clinical skills and simulation labs, creating one of the most modern and expansive lab complexes in the Caribbean. For less cerebral comforts, a gymnasium and athletic facilities are on site while the capital city of St. John’s, the airport and numerous beaches and hiking trails are easily accessible.

ISLAND TOUR

AUA is located on the northern edge of the island of Antigua, the main island in the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. This nation obtained full independence in 1981, and the government has remained stable and democratic since that time. The official language is English.

The nation is part of the Lesser Antilles chain of islands, which start east of the Greater Antilles (Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Cuba) and extend south to the edge of South America. Antigua and Barbuda are approximately 325 mi (525 km) east of Puerto Rico.

Antigua has a moderate climate, with temperatures averaging between 82°F and 87°F (28°C and 31°C). Rainfall averages 42 in (106 cm) per year, though it varies widely, and is heaviest during the summer. The environment ranges from beaches to lush rainforest.

The AUA campus is located at the northern end of Antigua, four minutes from the airport. With an area 108 sq. mi (160 sq. km), the island is completely accessible by car.

The currency is the Eastern Caribbean (EC) dollar, which is pegged to the U.S. dollar at a rate of 2.68 to 1, though U.S. dollars are readily accepted throughout the island.
