    Seymour Schwartz is the Provost and Professor of Surgery. He served as the Chair of the University of Rochester School of Medicine Department of Surgery. He has received an appointment as Distinguished Alumni Professor from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz has published extensively. However, he is probably best known for his text book, Principles of Surgery, which is considered by many as the definitive text book on the practice of surgery, and which is used in almost every United States medical school. In addition, Dr. Schwartz has authored close to a dozen other text books that are used in medical schools across the United States. He has published more than fifty individual chapters of various text books, over 200 articles, and continues to lecture extensively at medical schools throughout the United States and the world.

    Dr. Nagra is the Executive Dean of Basic Sciences - Antigua Campus & Vice President for Academic Affairs at AUA. He received his professional qualifications - MBBS, diploma in public health and MD in preventive and social medicine from the Armed Forces Medical College, University of Pune, India. He served the Indian Army and Navy as a specialist in Community Medicine for 28 years. He opted for a premature retirement at the rank of Surgeon Captain. His meritorious services were recognized by the Chief of Naval Staff and he was appointed as Director Health Services of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India for a five-year term. He oversaw the provision of comprehensive healthcare to a population of 350,000 dispersed over 21 islands, in the vast waters of the Bay of Bengal, through a network of 120 health institutions that he helped develop. This contribution was honored by the President of India with the Vishisht Sewa Medal. 


    Dr. Nagra joined the Manipal Group in 1995 after taking a premature retirement from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He was the foundind Dean and Director of Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Nepal. In a span of 8 years, the college and its associated Manipal Teaching Hospital were recognized as centers of excellence in the region. At the same time, he helped Kathmandu University in establishing the Faculty of Medicine as member of the University Senate, Academic Council and Faculty Board. 


    The experience and expertise that Dr. Nagra acquired in healthcare and medical education make him capable of succeeding at both his administrative and academic responsibilities. From Nepal, he moved to Malaysia as Dean, Melaka-Manipal Medical College. He was concurrently appointed Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University, India. Thereafter he served as Principal Officer for the Manipal Group's International Campus Operations and Chief Executive, Manipal Health Systems.

    A board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Bell received his M.D. degree and his doctorate from the J .W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. He spent nine years in the German navy as a medical officer; during that time he was trained as a naval flight surgeon at the U.S. Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida.

     

    Dr. Bell served as deputy medical director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Ostseeklink Damp and completed numerous national and international rescue missions as emergency physician of the German Air Rescue.

     

    Prior to his assignment at American University of Antigua he chaired the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Holberton Hospital, St. John's, Antigua. Dr. Bell served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Executive Dean Antigua Campus for AUA from 2005 through 2009.

    Dr. Glasser has taught physiology and neuroscience at Long Island University, the College of New Rochelle, Fordham University, and St. George's University School of Medicine. He was Guest Lecturer in Neuroscience at Peking Union Medical College (Beijing, China) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1987. Dr. Glasser received a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Rochester. As a post-doctoral fellow, he conducted research in the Department of Physiology at Brandeis University and the Neuropsychology Laboratory of Harvard University. He has received two grants from the National Institutes of Health, and Numerous Excellence in Teaching awards. Dr. Glasser is a member of The New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, the Society for Neurosciences, and the International Brain Organization.

    Dr. Lueck is a graduate from the University of Bielefeld in Germany, where he obtained both a degree as diplom-biologe (equivalent to master of science degree in Biology) and the doctor of natural sciences degree (DNSc equivalent to PhD). For both degrees, Dr. Lueck majored in molecular biology, molecular cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Dr. Lueck has 5 years post-doctoral experience in biomedical research and spent 3 years of his post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He also has more than 20 years experience in teaching and tutoring students at the high school, college and university level.

     

    From 1999 to 2004 Dr. Lueck was chair of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Saba University School of Medicine. At Saba University he was also Director of Research and later chair of the Molecular Sciences Division. Since 2004, Dr. Lueck is Professor and Chair of the Department for Medical Biochemistry and Genetics at AUA. From March 2005 to December 2007 Dr. Lueck was appointed Associate Dean of Admissions.     Dr. Pathan, professionally qualified as a librarian in 1966, has worked as a Medical Librarian for major medical schools and hospitals in the U.S. and abroad since 1972. He was the first recipient of the Eileen Cunningham International Fellowship of the Medical Library Association, Chicago in 1971, while he was working at St. John's Medical College, Bangalore. Dr. Pathan received Bachelors' degrees in Arts; a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Karnataka University, Dharwad, India, and a Master's degree in Health Sciences Librarianship from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.     Reza Sanii BSc. Med. MSc. PhD. Professor and Chair for the Department of Physiology also serves as The Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Chair of the Curriculum committee. A graduate of the University of Manitoba School of medicine in Winnipeg Manitoba, Dr. Sanii also followed up his post doctoral training in Canada. He garnered much training and teaching experience in the area of Medical Physiology at a few institutions including in the University of Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne (United Kingdom).

     

    Dr. Sanii is well recognized as a passionate and capable teacher and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He served in varying capacities to many government arms and scientific societies in Canada and around the world. Most of his research and publication focused on the mechanical and neurological response of respiratory system to wide spectrum of respiratory disorders and includes the study of neuro-physiological aspects of the control of ventilations in conscious human. He has also studied the effectiveness of exercise in controlling downfall of respiratory system in patients with spinal cord injuries.

     

    Dr. Sanii has published more than 150 original papers, abstracts and non-scientific articles. He is currently working on a project to design a system enabling patients with weak or even paralyzed respiratory muscles to improve their respiratory defense mechanism through coughing. Such a system may be used to study the mechanism and treatment of upper airway disorders associated with sleep apnea. Dr. Sanii joined the department in 2005.

He joined AUA with his vast teaching and diagnostic experience. He is an ardent team player and has taught undergraduate students and residents in Pathology in Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India, Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Pokhara, Nepal and was briefly associated with Sikkim-Manipal University in Gangtok, Sikkim. He has assisted 40 doctoral students in their research work and has dozens of publications in National and International Medical Journals. He is known for his unique teaching skills.     Dr. Bharati Balachandran taught microbiology at the Kasturba medical college, Mangalore, of the Manipal University since 1992.     Dr. Richard S. Hannah is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, where he earned a baccalaureate degree in zoology and his masters of science and doctor of philosophy in human anatomy. In addition to being listed in the Canadian Who's Who, he is also Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dr. Hannah's research career includes numerous awards and more than 100 publications in the field of Environmental Toxicology. His research interests are currently centered on the development, production, dissemination and evaluation of health related multimedia programs for use in TeleLearning environments.

     

    Most recently, Dr. Hannah, as the Health Science Editor for MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) was instrumental in the planning and establishment of the peer review process for multimedia learning materials. MERLOT (www.merlot.org) is a consortium of Canadian and U.S. Universities committed to improving the effectiveness of teaching and learning by expanding the quantity and quality of peer reviewed online learning materials. As an educator , in the U.S.A. and Canada, Dr. Hannah has taught all aspects of Human Anatomy in both traditional and non-traditional medical curricula.

     

    Dr. Hannah is also the author of numerous computer-based multimedia learning packages for the medical sciences and lay public. Administratively, Dr. Hannah has served in numerous positions including Director of Gross Anatomy, Assistant Dean (Research) and Head, Department of Anatomy. He has also been an elected executive member of the Canadian Association of Anatomists.

    Dr. Kastuk earned his Master’s and PhD degrees in Psychology from York University in Canada, and in 1999 began work as a medical school professor. He also holds a Master’s of Science degree in Hyperbaric Medicine. Dr. Kastuk has been involved in a variety of research areas including research on the influence of sex hormones on brain function, decompression studies, as well as his dissertation area concerning the recovery of cognitive skills in the brain injured. Dr. Kastuk is also a certified professional SCUBA diving instructor, and holds various certifications in the field of first aid and emergency treatment.

    Dr. James M. Rice is Chair of Behavioral Science. He received his Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wright State University, his Master’s degree in Psychology from Drake University, and his doctoral degree in rehabilitation from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois.     Deborah Gerrity, Ph.D, a counseling psychologist, is an Associate Professor in Behavioral Sciences and the University Counselor. Prior to coming to AUA, she taught at at the University at Buffalo, SUNY in Counseling Psychology and Purdue University. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Masters Degree in Community Counseling, Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, and doctoral internship were all completed at the University of Maryland at College Park. Her counseling and research interests are in the areas of group counseling and women’s issues, including sexual abuse, sexual harassment, infertility, and gender role socialization. Deborah has authored or co-authored over 20 journal articles, research reports, manuscripts, and book chapters.     Dr. Roslyn Trezevant Haley earned a doctorate in education (Ed.D) with a specialization in educational Leadership from the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA).  She has a masters degree in public administration (MPA) from California State University Los Angeles (CSULA) and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History from South Carolina State University (SCSU). Her most recent professional experience was Dean of Counseling and Matriculation at Antelope Valley College (AVC) through June 2011. Before her tenure at AVC, she was the Executive Director of Student Administration at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science. Dr. Haley worked at UCLA for twenty five years in student services administration and counseling. While there, she was academic counselor for students in the School of Public Health which included the MD/MPH joint degree program.   She is also on the faculty at the University of Phoenix and is a Chair in the College of Humanities.

    Dr. Murlimanju B.V. received a MBBS degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in India, a MD in human anatomy from Manipal University in India. He has more than 6 years of teaching experience in Human Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. His areas of interest include Clinical Anatomy and Gross Anatomy. He has also had experience in the Department of Surgery for 2 years.

     

    Dr. Murlimanju B.V. has more than 50 publications in the peer-reviewed journals, including Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, Anatomical Sciences International etc. among which most of them are indexed by the National Library of Medicine, U.S.A. He has presented his research scientific papers in various international conferences held at the United States of America, India, Malaysia and Singapore. He is a peer reviewer for more than 10 international journals and is a member of Anatomical Society of India and Karnataka Chapter of Anatomists.
