What is the Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Abroad?

Different universities have different eligibility criteria for MBBS abroad. However, there are some requirements common to all courses, mentioned below in this eligibility checklist:

  1. Age: The student should be 17 years old or turning 17 by the 31st of December of the year
    of admission.
  2. Academic Qualifications: Indian students should hold a Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
    qualification in all three Science subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry and Biology. 
  3. Eligibility: Students must have a minimum of 70% in all three Science subjects, namely Physics,
    Chemistry and Biology. 
  4. Students Pursuing Higher Secondary Education: Students who at the time of applying are in
    the 12th grade are eligible for the programme under certain conditions. A conditional acceptance
    letter is given to applicants who have scored 70% in all Science subjects in 10th and 11th grades.
    The condition will read that the student should have 70% and above in their CBSE or other board
    exams. After the exams are taken, and the results are announced, the student’s acceptance may
    stand cancelled if they do not meet the 70% cut-off.
  5. Foreign Students in India and Other Exceptions: Non-Indian citizens studying in India under a
    curriculum that does not have any Science subjects can apply under some conditions. In such cases,
    Maths or English subjects will be the alternatives.
  6. Examination Requirements: Students must have qualified the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test
    (NEET), as per the latest notification issued by the Medical Council of India’s (MCI). Candidates should
    keep in mind that the upper age limit for the NEET is 25 years for General candidates and 30 years for
    SC, ST and OBC candidates.
  7. NRI Students: If an NRI student does not hold an Indian passport, if they wish to apply to either of the
    programmes at AUA, namely Pre-Med and MD, NEET is not a requirement. However, if a student has an
    Indian citizenship and holds an Indian passport, they have to first qualify for the Indian NEET exams in
    order to pursue MBBS abroad.
  8. Exceptional Circumstances: Students from International or IB Schools such as Cambridge are not
    required to have studied all three Science subjects as the ICSE board does not permit the same. However,
    it is required of them to have studied the subjects in the 10th or 11th grade to match up to the eligibility
    criteria for MBBS abroad.
