Here We Go Again
Ten days can either last an eternity or pass by in a single ventricular contraction. (Yes, I know, but I couldn’t resist). The last ten days of Med 2 consumed more time than the previous seven months put together. The ten days of break went by far too quickly, taking less time than required to make a lasagna (of which I had several). What would have been useful is time dilation, but where can you find a black hole on such short notice?
The best part of home, other than being able to see family and friends, is the food. Home cooking, fast food, buffets, restaurants, Cinnabon, milkshakes, etc; the flavour explodes on your palate like fireworks. I’m not an incredible cook – my talents are limited to pasta and rice (i.e. I know how to boil things). I am exceptionally good at frozen foods, but those are prohibitively expensive on the island.

However, ten days of enjoying feasting, bathing, kith and kin, [not at the same time obviously] came to a close far too soon. As I wing my way to the island, however, I am somewhat looking forward to the semester for two reasons. One – I will never have to go through Med 2 again. Ever. Which is just a lovely thought. Two – I am no longer living in on-campus housing! Four friends and I found a lovely house near the golf course (which is nice, but also expensive if you didn’t bring your clubs). The only thing that I will miss is most likely the community feeling of the on-campus housing. If you were bored with the people you were currently spending time with, you could go somewhere else and find other things with which to interest yourself.
Interestingly, the tenants are responsible for purchasing the gas used for the stove, the gas used to heat hot water, setting up the internet, and paying a cleaning lady who comes twice a month whether we want her to or not. I found all this out after waiting an hour for my housemate to pick me up, then having to wait all day before I could enter as the landlady was having the house cleaned and then having entered, found out that we had no hot water with which to shower. As you can imagine, this cast a severe damper on my first day back. However, I am back! I may be showering in cold water and preparing my food in a microwave, but onward and upward!
