I am pleased and honored to announce that Seymour Schwartz, M.D., F.A.C.S, distinguished Alumni Professor Department of Surgery, University of Rochester, has accepted the position of Provost of American University of Antigua.

Dr. Schwartz, a world renowned surgeon, is the author and editor-in-chief of Principles of Surgery the primary textbook for surgery used in medicine schools throughout the United States and the World. In addition, he is the editor of two additions of Abdominal Operations.

Dr. Seymour Schwartz, M.D.,F.A.C.S., distinguished Alumni Professor Department of Surgery, University of Rochester, was one of the pioneers of liver surgery and has authored the widely used textbook “Surgical Diseases of the Liver”.

He has edited several journals including the Yearbook of Surgery, which he directed for 21 years. Currently, he is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. He has authored approximately 300 scientific articles and has given distinguished named lectures around the world. He has served as President of America’s three most distinguished surgical organizations, the American College of Surgeons, the American Surgical Association the Society for Clinical Surgery, and is a member of the Institute of Medicine.

In the last year, Dr. Schwartz was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, which was bestowed upon him by King Juan Carlos of Spain and the distinguished alumni award from the University of Rochester Medical School.

American University of Antigua welcomes Dr. Schwartz and looks forward to his leadership.
