Provost Seymour Schwartz, the keynote speaker, welcomed students with these words, “White is the appropriate color for you to don on this occasion. White symbolizes cleanliness, asepsis, and purity. Physically and optically, white is the amalgamation of all the visible colors of the rainbow, as is evidenced by the fact that when light passes through a prism all colors reappear. The white coat is emblematic of the fusion of all the apparently disparate facts that you will learn, coupled with the caring attitude, ethical behavior, and professionalism that you will acquire.”

The event was well attended and crowded with family and friends who gave the students an enthusiastic reception. They watched as the students donned their white coats, indicating that they have started the first semester of challenging academics that is beginning their career in medicine.
