Dr. Reece has seven years private and industrial practice experience that immediately followed his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Iowa State University (ISU), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). After which he returned to ISU, CVM, Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology (VPP), now Biomedical Sciences, for research and studies leading to a PhD in Veterinary Physiology. Thesis research related to inhalation studies on the toxicity of rare earths (funded by US Atomic Energy Commission). Following the PhD, Dr. Reece accepted a faculty appointment at ISU, CVM, VPP, to pursue a career in research and teaching which continued for 33 years. Dr. Reece has taught a wide range of topics in veterinary physiology to veterinary and undergraduate students, concurrent with research and publication related to small animal and food animal problems. Publications also included authorship and editing Dukes’ Physiology of Domestic Animals and authorship of Functional Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals. The latter has continued to date.
