Post-Graduate Training: Residency

The length of post-graduate medical training is specialty-dependent and can be three to seven years in duration.

Typically, post-graduate training begins July 1st every year and many residency programs start orientation in mid-June. To accommodate the July 1st start date, the student must secure the ECFMG Certification no later than June 30th that year. The ECFMG certification process takes no less than four (4) weeks and is a required document prior to starting residency.

The application process for residency training is a cumbersome and lengthily one, which begins approximately one full year prior to degree conferral.
