Academics and Instruction
A look at the academic and instructional facilities of our campus
Center for Simulated Learning
The center is equipped with the latest training simulators for students and doctors, in the form of SimMan 3G®, SimBaby™, Harvey® and a pregnancy simulator. These simulators include the latest interactive software, incorporating challenging clinical scenarios. Clinical skill assessments will be performed individually and in small-group sessions. Students will have a unique opportunity to apply their basic science knowledge in clinical situations, instilling confidence and consistency in the clinical program.
Clinical Skills Lab
The Clinical Skill Lab is an ideal environment to apply the basic science knowledge and clinical skill that is expected of a contemporary medical professional. The lab provides students with an opportunity to develop clinical skills in a safe environment to learn by doing. There are sections for scrubbing and gowning where technology is applied to ensure every inch of the hand is clean. Under the supervision of trained clinical faculty, students will have hands-on experience performing a host of essential procedures, each providing a rich learning experience. Students will be provided with the opportunity to gain experience in patient care and treatment.
Anatomy Lab
The anatomy labs are equipped and designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience in Gross Anatomy and Neuroanatomy. Dissection and prosection of cadavers is the foundation of the learning process, which is greatly enhanced by plastinated body part specimens, models, X-rays, CT and MRI sections. Computer stations provide instant access to Adams Atlas, V.H.Dissector and prerecorded prosected demos, giving students a multifaceted learning experience. The anatomy learning experience can be captured and displayed on the five large, HD monitors, using the state-of-the-art audio-visual systems in the dissection hall.
Multidisciplinary Lab
Equipped to support hands-on laboratory experiments, this lab facilitates the study of Microbiology, Parasitology, Immunology and Pathology for medical students. Students acquire the skills to isolate and study the cause and pathological basis of human and zoonotic infections, laying the groundwork for creating insightful and talented researchers and diagnosticians.
Simulated Doctor’s Offices
The Simulated Doctor’s Offices provide an environment where students can see professional patients and provides them with the opportunity to hone their bedside manner, history taking and diagnostic skills.
Faculty-Student Research Lab
The Research Lab provides the necessary space, resources and equipment for bench research, accessible to both students and faculty.
Emergency Medicine Training Center
The American Heart Association™ International Training Center was established in partnership with the Mayo Clinic. Aimed at instilling the critical components of Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), for both the adult and pediatric patient, the Center’s programs integrate academic knowledge and skill proficiency. Students are taught airway management, ECG rhythm recognition and IV management. Simulated emergency code scenarios are utilized to enhance critical thinking skills. All programs are required of AUA students and offered to local healthcare professionals.
Library
In a campus dedicated to the needs of the mind, this serves as the heart. AUA’s library features a large, constantly growing collection of medical texts and journals. The collection is matched by extensive online resources, including access to tens of thousands of articles, research papers, best-practice guidelines and more. There are computer terminals for student use, and universal Wi-Fi™ lets them work from their own laptops. Open 24 hours a day, the library features both small group study rooms and individual study areas, allowing for complete immersion in your work.
Classrooms
Featuring a high-speed network connection at every seat, blanket Wi-Fi™ coverage, high-definition video, interactive lecture, integrated with Blackboard Learn™, the classrooms are the result of thinking big and building small. By avoiding large, impersonal lecture halls, AUA ensures that our faculty to student ratio remains high.
