Fifth Semester
Serving as a bridge to the Clinical Sciences, the Fifth Semester consists of three separate components.
Integrated Basic Science Review Course I - Weeks 1–9
The initial component engages students in integrating the previous four semesters of Basic Sciences coursework. This review reinforces the previous years’ learning and aids students in excelling on the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) Step 1.
Integrated Basic Science Review Course II - Weeks 10–14
Students continue their preparations using questions supplied by AUA’s Educational Enhancement Department via the Blackboard Learn™ system. This component can be completed in Antigua or at home in the U.S. or Canada.
Family Practice I/Internal Medicine I - Weeks 15–20
Students are required to proceed to the U.S. to begin the Family Practice I/Internal Medicine I component at an AUA-affiliated clinical site.
Students must pass the USMLE Step 1 in order to proceed to the sixth semester. The MD program continues from there with students required to rotate through mandatory and elective clerkships.
