    Dr. Nagra is the Executive Dean of Basic Sciences - Antigua Campus & Vice President for Academic Affairs at AUA. He received his professional qualifications - MBBS, diploma in public health and MD in preventive and social medicine from the Armed Forces Medical College, University of Pune, India. He served the Indian Army and Navy as a specialist in Community Medicine for 28 years. He opted for a premature retirement at the rank of Surgeon Captain. His meritorious services were recognized by the Chief of Naval Staff and he was appointed as Director Health Services of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India for a five-year term. He oversaw the provision of comprehensive healthcare to a population of 350,000 dispersed over 21 islands, in the vast waters of the Bay of Bengal, through a network of 120 health institutions that he helped develop. This contribution was honored by the President of India with the Vishisht Sewa Medal. 


    Dr. Nagra joined the Manipal Group in 1995 after taking a premature retirement from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He was the foundind Dean and Director of Manipal College of Medical Sciences, Nepal. In a span of 8 years, the college and its associated Manipal Teaching Hospital were recognized as centers of excellence in the region. At the same time, he helped Kathmandu University in establishing the Faculty of Medicine as member of the University Senate, Academic Council and Faculty Board. 


    The experience and expertise that Dr. Nagra acquired in healthcare and medical education make him capable of succeeding at both his administrative and academic responsibilities. From Nepal, he moved to Malaysia as Dean, Melaka-Manipal Medical College. He was concurrently appointed Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University, India. Thereafter he served as Principal Officer for the Manipal Group's International Campus Operations and Chief Executive, Manipal Health Systems.

    A board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Bell received his M.D. degree and his doctorate from the J .W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. He spent nine years in the German navy as a medical officer; during that time he was trained as a naval flight surgeon at the U.S. Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida.

     

    Dr. Bell served as deputy medical director of the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Ostseeklink Damp and completed numerous national and international rescue missions as emergency physician of the German Air Rescue.

     

    Prior to his assignment at American University of Antigua he chaired the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Holberton Hospital, St. John's, Antigua. Dr. Bell served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Executive Dean Antigua Campus for AUA from 2005 through 2009.

    Dr. Glasser has taught physiology and neuroscience at Long Island University, the College of New Rochelle, Fordham University, and St. George's University School of Medicine. He was Guest Lecturer in Neuroscience at Peking Union Medical College (Beijing, China) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1987. Dr. Glasser received a Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Rochester. As a post-doctoral fellow, he conducted research in the Department of Physiology at Brandeis University and the Neuropsychology Laboratory of Harvard University. He has received two grants from the National Institutes of Health, and Numerous Excellence in Teaching awards. Dr. Glasser is a member of The New York Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, the Society for Neurosciences, and the International Brain Organization.

    Dr. Lueck is a graduate from the University of Bielefeld in Germany, where he obtained both a degree as diplom-biologe (equivalent to master of science degree in Biology) and the doctor of natural sciences degree (DNSc equivalent to PhD). For both degrees, Dr. Lueck majored in molecular biology, molecular cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics. Dr. Lueck has 5 years post-doctoral experience in biomedical research and spent 3 years of his post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He also has more than 20 years experience in teaching and tutoring students at the high school, college and university level.

     

    From 1999 to 2004 Dr. Lueck was chair of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Saba University School of Medicine. At Saba University he was also Director of Research and later chair of the Molecular Sciences Division. Since 2004, Dr. Lueck is Professor and Chair of the Department for Medical Biochemistry and Genetics at AUA. From March 2005 to December 2007 Dr. Lueck was appointed Associate Dean of Admissions. Presently Dr. Lück is the Dean of Academic Matters and the chair of the Admissions Committee and the Faculty Recruitment and Review Committee.

    Dr. Moreno is the Dean of the American International College of Arts and Sciences – Antigua and Professor of Biology. He comes to AICASA from the University of Colorado, Boulder; where he served as Senior Instructor in Biology for the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Farrand Academic Program. The current President of the Caribbean Academy of Science, Dr. Moreno is also the author of many published articles, and the co-author of “The Tangled Bank” (Vols. 1 and 2), an introductory biology textbook.

    Dr. Pathan, professionally qualified as a librarian in 1966, has worked as a Medical Librarian for major medical schools and hospitals in the U.S. and abroad since 1972. He was the first recipient of the Eileen Cunningham International Fellowship of the Medical Library Association, Chicago in 1971, while he was working at St. John's Medical College, Bangalore. Dr. Pathan received Bachelors' degrees in Arts; a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science from Karnataka University, Dharwad, India, and a Master's degree in Health Sciences Librarianship from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He received a Doctorate in Library and Information Sciences from Karnataka University, Dharwad, India. He has extensive experience with the establishment of state-of-the-art medical libraries and learning resource centers and their management.

     

    He has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and has edited numerous multiple-choice USMLE -type questions for Basic Science courses while working at Medical school.     Reza Sanii BSc. Med. MSc. PhD. Professor and Chair for the Department of Physiology also serves as The Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Chair of the Curriculum committee. A graduate of the University of Manitoba School of medicine in Winnipeg Manitoba, Dr. Sanii also followed up his post doctoral training in Canada. He garnered much training and teaching experience in the area of Medical Physiology at a few institutions including in the University of Newcastle, Newcastle upon Tyne (United Kingdom).

     

    Dr. Sanii is well recognized as a passionate and capable teacher and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He served in varying capacities to many government arms and scientific societies in Canada and around the world. Most of his research and publication focused on the mechanical and neurological response of respiratory system to wide spectrum of respiratory disorders and includes the study of neuro-physiological aspects of the control of ventilations in conscious human. He has also studied the effectiveness of exercise in controlling downfall of respiratory system in patients with spinal cord injuries.

     

    Dr. Sanii has published more than 150 original papers, abstracts and non-scientific articles. He is currently working on a project to design a system enabling patients with weak or even paralyzed respiratory muscles to improve their respiratory defense mechanism through coughing. Such a system may be used to study the mechanism and treatment of upper airway disorders associated with sleep apnea. Dr. Sanii joined the department in 2005.
