The American University of Antigua welcomes Dr. Violet Gordon, B.S.N., M.A., Ph.D., as the new Dean and Professor of Nursing at the AICASA School of Nursing.

Dr. Gordon received her Bachelor of Science degree from Hunter College, New York, Master's degree from New York University, and Ph.D. from Adelphi University, New York. She has extensive experience in all levels of nursing education and nursing service administration serving as Director of Nursing and Associate Administrator for Quality Improvement and Risk Management.

"I am delighted to be back home," Dr. Gordon said. "I have been thinking about contributing to nursing in Antigua for a while, so it is an exciting opportunity to lead this academic nursing program and prepare students to become future leaders of the nursing profession. I started my career in nursing at the Holberton Hospital, continued in the United Kingdom, and then practiced nursing in New York State.” Acknowledging that this program is not an entity, but global in nature, Dr. Gordon will be reaching out and collaborating with local, regional and global experts in nursing education and service to make this program a success. She also plans to utilize theory, practice and research to lay the foundation for evidence-based practice.

Dr. Peter Bell, Dean of AUA in his welcoming address said, “The University is very pleased to welcome Dr. Gordon to our team. Dr. Gordon, a native Antiguan, has the ideal academic and nursing background for the position of Dean of the AICASA School of Nursing. We know that she will do whatever is necessary to further enhance the program. Dr. Gordon has a close connection with Lehman College which is good for us as the nursing degree is a combined degree and a joint program with Lehman College City University of New York.”
